751. June 3
Last night was dreadful. I tried to stay awake to monitor the situation but I was too tired. Then the nightmare happened. We were all children running from a cat of Bast. I’m told there was some snake-filled sanctuary waiting for us at the end but I didn’t make it. The cat caught up to me and ripped me apart.
I awoke in a sweat but otherwise unharmed. But I feel I was lucky. The dream was unusual and very much seemed dangerous. I can see how people around here have gone mad from their dreams. Unfortunately, we have no connection between this nightmare and Krajkah’s behavior yet.
This morning, Krajkah came into the room as Esera and I finished preparing spells. Xanfire was gone but he had one of Xanfire’s books that seemed prominent. The book is a gnome book called On Traps and Treachery. It had a riddle to get in that was related to the book’s author, Sulien.
The next events were a bit hazy. I was focused on the spellbook on the altar. Bellrauthien was up past the rubble with Lily. Lily tried to get him to come down into the chamber but he refused. The behavior was odd and she said some things to him that clearly provoked him as he attacked her with the flat of his blade. I used pilfering hand to grab the staff, thinking perhaps it made things worse. The staff threatened me so I dropped it and it returned to Bellrauthien.
The argument continued. This is not how we should act, not as a group, not if we want to live. I regret that I need these people for what I desire, but there may be no other way.
Bellrauthien is acting strange, whether he admits it or not. He let me look at the staff though and I identified it. It has the ability to dominate someone. It likely won’t unless it serves its purpose, which is to destroy the followers of the cat goddess, Bast. Still, it has a force of will and that may be affecting Bellrauthien.
The staff would be a powerful ally if we could strike an accord. But as is, it seems best to return it. For now, Bellrauthien is unaware of its abilities.
