Tracking Nikolai

Diplomacy DC 19 (normal DC 15, -4 penalty) over 1d4 hours asking around in the market will figure out who Nikolai is, a little about him and where his shop is.

Following the directions you received you travel south of the wall through the main gates down Anglisky you turn East along Utkina. The looming shambles of The Warrens crumble on either side of the road with occasional piles of rubble encroaching on the wide main street. You see filthy men and women in torn clothing with rags bound around their feet using rusty shovels to pile up human waste, dead animals various trash in rickety carts under the watchful eye of men holding lashes with manacles on their belts. Each of the guards wears a prominent tabard over their heavy uniform depicting an oversized gauntlet holding a large flail. The clink of the chains around the men’s ankles marks their status in life.
Past the first huge block of crumbling warren buildings, after the side street of Sutugina, the southern edge of the road begins to border a better maintained manufacturing district. Tall rust spotted iron fences topped with intimidating jagged spikes enclose open yards around brick and block buildings. In some of the yards you see stacks of building materials, kilns, sheds and wells. Many also have large dogs with spiny collars around their heavily muscled necks.
Nikolai’s workshop is down a side street in the north-central portion of the block. A dark iron sign with silvery steel worked in the shape of a coffin marks the place. There is a side yard with workhorses and a large storage shed behind the high fence. The building itself is two stories high with the narrow side facing the street. As the tall gated fence directly abuts the building the heavy iron front door set into the brick building seems the most likely place to start.
