Lily and Kuzma had an argument about killing. Unfortunately, we are on a job, not a holy quest. Our own ideals aren’t an option. Kuzma is using us. Though I’m not sure if he realizes we are using him. Nor does anyone suspect the extent I am using them.
Then began exploration of the complex. I was in no condition to continue, but I did and nearly perished as a result. One of the rooms was an alchemical chamber of a gnome named Zanfire. He was hiding and I could smell him so he shot me with a poisoned arrow. I took an antitoxin from Kuzma, the only thing that kept me alive to write this entry.
Zanfire at first claimed to be a slave but we eventually discovered that wasn’t correct. He was a bandit, pure and simple. Doesn’t matter whether he was directly involved in their attacks. He’s lucky to be alive. We could easily tell his true story to Kuzma and his life would be forfeit. After this incident I began cataloging the things found on the bodies and in the area and left the rest to explore.
We discovered that Grast was not some person Chezna wanted to protect but rather a very nice horse. It is penned in the animal chamber with the rest of the living beasts. Surprisingly enough it seems to have confidence, an unusual trait for a simple animal.
One chamber is a burial chamber. The bodies are gone and it seems the bandits were using this area to sleep. Lily noted this type of chamber is more common in desert regions, not in the plains of forests of Nova Vaasa. Could this entire complex be somehow out of time or in the wrong area of the Core? And what is it the bandits were searching for here? At the least Berror had some interest in these caves beyond as a hideout.
There were some other rooms of note, but Chezna’s room was the most significant as she had a plains cat as a pet. The others destroyed it to some regret as I would have liked to speak with it. It had blood red fur. In the back of her chamber is a treasure room where they found coins, gems, and more. But also the staff. The staff turned into a snake and then back to a staff for Bellrauthian to hold. He now bears it and I worry about what that means in the future.
