The Eye was a letter to me. I don’t know what I expected, but the Eye replicates what I would expect on my most optimistic day. It’s what I want and believe to be true. But I worry about its instructions at my peril. Best to not spend much time with it.
Arathmis also saw it as a letter and copied its contents down. I should talk with him about this at some point. It is folly to put too much investment in its words. Krajkah saw it as an ax. But a special one.
We then discussed our plans for after Tepest. I’m still a bit confused about what’s left to do here, so the whole conversation frustrated me. Most of all, I don’t want another web of lies and confusion. Krajkah and Arathmis can’t be relied on to hold true to the lies. More importantly, what need have I to lie? Dementlieu and Nova Vaasa do not have strained relations and I have no intention of pushing my magic on them. If Krajkah really wants to be Lily’s slave, that’s their mess. I will have no part of it.

Early morning. Esera awoken by noises and lights in Krajkah’s rooms. None of the rest of us experienced this. But she doesn’t lie. Could be fey. The others are sharing rooms now.

Went to the Shadow Rift today. Not our wisest course.
On the way there, the road became overgrown and all signs of civilization ceased. We spoke on the way. The Vandrakite sigil was a part of Rima’s reading for Arathmis. The Vandrakites are perhaps a force that will help us. But we currently need no help, at least not in Nova Vaasa. We will need to be wary.
Soon after, we spotted an area of the forest underneath dark snow clouds, with a goblinoid hand sticking out of the snow. It seemed unnatural and we didn’t trust it, so we left it behind. I would later be told it was the forest fighting back against the goblins.
It wasn’t long until I noticed an increase in the chatter of the birds. I attuned my ears to their words and noticed two languages at play. One was the language of the birds themselves; the other Sylvan, the language of the fey, among others.
The birds spoke of us. We were there too soon. They should notify “her,” but she already knows. It was confusing, so I called out to them. A sparrow responded, in Sylvan. He was surprised I knew Sylvan, and more surprised I could understand the words of his kind. But it seems he and the rest of the animals were on our side. At least, not against us. He warned of dangers and said the birds would look ahead to make sure we were safe.
My curiosity was strong, and I so wanted to know more, but I knew I was alarming the others. They were surprised, though they accepted my newfound gifts readily. I don’t know if there will be ramifications. That is why I kept them secret at first. But with my powers revealed, there are no more secrets, lest my memory betrays me… What was it Rima said? “To bring them out of the Mists and to their final destination you must harness the power of nature.” It begins.
The Shadow Rift was exactly how I imagined it. It’s a large endless (to human eyes) chasm filled with black mists. To Jeanne and me, it might seem the opposite of Esra, but it might also be said that there is some aspect of Esra in those mists as well.
While looking out over the edge, we spotted an oozing black mass on the cliffside, like a jellied dessert gone bad. The brush that it touched was eaten, or simply destroyed. Krajkah told me to shoot it. Silly Dwarf. I told him to shout at it instead and he did just that. It suddenly grew wings and rushed us.
We sprang into action, Krajkah growing large and me giving him the power of flight. Esera and Lily were quick to back away, but stayed close until we knew we were running. Didn’t take long to make that call. I put a fake Krajkah on the edge to distract it, but that only lasted for a few seconds. Thankfully, it was long enough that we were able to get away. It took a good amount of power just to get away from this thing. The sparrow was right; it was too soon. Though I think I would sleep better at night without the implication that there would come a day when we are actually meant to go to the Shadow Rift.
